Problem with Hartke A70 Amp ... ?
I was wondering if anyone can offer a few pence of advice about a Hartke A70 bass amp.
I picked it up cheap a week or so ago and it sounded good, but the light on the limiter didn't work. (It has a variable limiter controlled by a dial, with a little light that turns blue when the limiter is working and red when its maxing out. When the knob is turned all the way to zero the limiter is off)
Well, being an idiot, I didn't research the amp before I went to look at it, so I didn't really check it thoroughly and notice the problem with the limiter. I take the thing home, fire it up and play for a little while. Sounds great. Then I turn it off and the blue light flashes ... something I didn't notice when I bought it. I flip it back on immediately, and the light is glowing blue, and the amp isn't putting out any sound ... ack!
I turn if off again (the blue light blinks), wait a minute, turn it back on and the light's off. Amp works fine. Turn it off and on again immediately and the blue light is back on and the sound is off!
I try this little routine several times and as long as a wait a minute after turning it off, the limiter doesn't come on and the sound is fine. Doesn't matter what setting the limiter knob is at when I turn it back on quickly. Off and on quickly, blue light comes on with no sound, Off, wait a minute, turn back on and sound works.
I can live with this arrangement for a third-hand amp, but I'm just curious if anyone has any ideas (other than, "take it to a repair guy...")
