Is it a problem or not?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,

i have an eden world traveller 400 watts amp and a d210xst cab, the problem is, i don't know if it's a 4 or a 8 ohms cab...

It's not written on it!!! Yesterday i plugged in a secong cab, an aguilar gs112, 8 ohms.

It sounded great.

What will happened if my d210xst is a 4ohms cab?

Can the amp takes it? or will it break?

thanks for your help!!!

Four ohms is the minimum load for that amp, so while the amp may be able to handle short periods of 2.67 ohms at low volumes, you're playing with fire (heat, actually) which will shorten the life of the components. Go to Home Depot or any other hardware store and buy a cheap multimeter; plug a 1/4-inch speaker cable into the 210 and use the probes on the multimeter to test the DC resistance at the other end of the cable (touching the tip and sleeve with the two probes). A 4-ohm cab will show somewhere around 3 ohms of resistance and an 8 ohm cab will show around 6 ohms. It's worth the $15 investment in the multimeter to save you from burning up the amp!

you can also pull a speaker and see if it's labeled 8 ohms. if it is, you have a 4 ohm cab. but if it's any other impedance, it's 8. i'm thinking yours is 8, but i agree that it's better to be on the safe side.
