Problems with Gallien Krueger 700 rb-II and rbx

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey I use a gk 700 rb ii and a 410/115 rbx stack. I bought the amp and 410 last October and the 115 in February of this year and have loved the sound I've been getting out of the setup. However, recently I noticed that I wasn't getting as much zing out of my upper register and come to find out my tweeter channel of my amp isn't working anymore. Then this past week while playing through my cabs I noticed that I was getting a terrible rattle out of my 15 cab. Hopefully some of you all can help me as to why this may be happening and also see if anybody has had problems out of the 700 rbii and rbx line. Thanks guys!

The rattle might be an easy fix. Get the 15 away from the 410 and see if you can tell where it's coming from. Just for the heck of it, tighten all your screws on the cab too. If the amp is new and under warranty just contact daniel@gallien.com and he will send you a factory repair form to fill out to get you on your way. This is the first I have heard of the horn amp actually dying on a 700rb-II, are you sure you don't have a loose connection somewhere? I was once using a GK speakon, was getting no sound whatsoever, discovered that the wire had just come loose from the pin connector. Take apart your cable and check all the connections! (The horn amp runs on the 2+ and 2- pins).

Thanks I'll definitely try that out. Anybody else have trouble out of GK stuff? I'm thinking about buying another 700 rbii head as a backup but starting to second guess on whether I should or not....

I wouldn't give up on my 700rb-II until an amp tech personally tells me that it has broken and I'm not just doing something wrong. GK amps are gunned for two hours straight and then measured with a computer for trouble and performance before they are shipped out. I highly doubt that yours would just die within less than a year. Did you get it used or new?

I got it new but I ride the rails constantly for "my sound" and I play multiple times a weekend including traveling...I don't know if that could affect it as well.

P.S. I'm a college student living on a pretty tight budget. But like I said I play multiple times a week. Do you think it would be a wise investment to buy a backup 700 rb-II? Just wanting some opinions.

I had a 700rbII that had a short in the Tweeter amp portion. First time I biamped it blew the tweeter in the cab. Took it to a tech off of GK website and it was fixed for free and works like a champ now.

It seems like the problem is with your cabs, not your head. You probably put more power through than they could handle.

But the rating should be fine for the cabs I thought? I don't see how I could've sent too hot of a signal with a passive fender p. 480 watts at 4 ohms for the head and two 8 ohm cabs that handle 400 watts each rms...

Just go to the gallien krueger website, find your nearest service center, drop it off with copies of proof of purchase and it's free. I've done it twice for my 212 and once for my 700.

Well see the problem is that I need this equipment every week and the minimum wait is 2 to 3 weeks from all the service centers around my area. Side note does anybody else ever get a burning smell from their GK cabs or amp? Cause here lately I've smelled a really burny smell from them....

Please don't power up your burning amp until after it has been properly serviced.

Perhaps you could rent or borrow something to play through in the interim?

Someone on campus must have a bass rig. Perhaps it's time to further expand your circle of friends and acquaintances?

In the meantime please expedite the repair of your G-K rig.

Alright guys so I got it all checked out. Come to find out my amp is fine but my 115 rbx woofer is starting to "come loose behind the cone". Basically is blowing. And both of my tweeters in both cabs are shot....Anybody have any problems with rbx's blowing? Anybody know why? I thought the ratings were fine. It's not like I'm sending heavy distortion through them....
