Proper Fuse for Rackmount Pre?

Sign in to disble this ad
I just acquired an older Ashly BP41 which arrived sans fuse and holder. I can't find much online but the unit is rated @ 120 VDC, 12 watts. Given this bit of info, can somebody tell me the appropriate fuse rating / type? Thanks.

1/2 amp, per the factory schematic. Mine has a standard (fast blow) one in it. Email tech support at Ashly if you want better info. Or PM for the schematic if you like.

Much obliged! You still use your's on a semi-regular basis?

It's been a while (I also have three pretty killer DIY preamps), so today I decided to try a mod I'd been contemplating for quite a while. I toned down the presence curve a bit in an attempt to quiet the preamp when using that mode. It seems to have worked well, maybe tomorrow I can take it out to an open mike and see how it works in a mix now.

Did you get yours working properly yet? Like it?

Yeah, works great! I don't care for the "presence" (?) option; the voicing is a little extreme. OTOH, I like to engage the para EQ with a wide notch, attenuate by 3 db, and do a sweep. I can get some serious tone with a dip in the 630 hz - 1.6 khz region. A boost in the 125 - 250 range works well, also.

The mod I did to the presence circuit (think "contour" or "smiley face curve", essentially) only required changing two resistors. I haven't measured yet, but I probably cut lows by ~6dB and highs by 3db or so. I think it'll be a lot more usable for my purposes now.

I've done several other mods in the past too. It's a very easy piece to work on IME.

Okay, that makes sense. I can see how that would tame things down a tad. Doubt if I'll modify mine, though.
