Pulled the trigger!

Sign in to disble this ad
After much thought and many hours thread surfing, I finally decided on my new bass rig.

(old rig):
SWR mo' Bass, goliath III 4X10,
Son of Bertha 1X15 (when needed)

(new rig):
Ampeg Heritage Series SVT-CL,
Heritage Series 4X10HLF

I contemplated on the Heritage 8X10, but in the end, portability, (self reliant roadie), difference in cabinet tuning & not to mention cost, were all key factors on the decision to go with the 4X10HLF.

I primarily play: reggae/traditional ska/soul music. I thought the 4x10HLF might be more appropiate, or (2) 4X10HLF cabs v.s. (1) 8X10 cab so to speak, if all we're comparing is tone and not air pushage.
Thoughts?

Also, is anyone else running this same configuration? I'd appreciate any feedback or reviews. This is my first venture with Ampeg ever (other than using a backlined cab once) and this is also my first venture with an all tube amp.
It arrives thursday, I'm super stoked & although I have an idea, I don't know what to expect.

But for some reason or another, my gut tells me this is the amp that is destined for my taste.
I can just 'feel it'.

I hear ya! I just made the plunge this weekend. Bought a new Mesa Powerhouse 410. Very pricey but worth every penny! Congrats on your new purchase!!!

Thanks!
Part of me (especially after reading so much reviews) makes me think I made the mistake of not choosing the 810E instead of the 410Hlf....
I'll primarily be playing roots reggae/soul. What do you guys think, anybody wanna chime in? Is a 410Hlf un-necessary if I only use a 4-string? Is one of those cabs more appropriate for my application?

I've used a very similar rig with my ska/rock band: Ampeg SVT-2 Pro with a 410HLF. While I mainly played 5/6 string basses through this it sounded awesome with just a 4 string. I had a second 410HLF but I found that I never needed it for any shows/venues that I played. You're going to be very happy.

I think the hlf will be perfect for the type of music you are playing.

You can play reggae with either of them, but I'd probably go for the 410HLF for a dedicated reggae rig.

Thank you for the replies & assurance. I'm sure I'm just over-analyzing, but ordering something I didn't have a chance to hear in person has me a little anxious...
It arrives today! Can't wait.

Well, here's the new rig!
It's tough to capture the true beauty of the grill cloth with just a 'point & shoot'.
Other than the houndstooth interior on my 1960 Impala, It's easily some of the handsomest fabric I've seen.

I also noticed that the handles on the 410HLF differs from marketing pictures I've seen.
(the handles on the head are still spring-loaded)
Is this new for 2011?
