Purchased new (1st) rig... steal?

New to TB, so hello everyone...

Now, I'm in a melodic, progressive metal band and I needed a rig (since I was borrowing a friends for the time being.) I was casually searching around. I came across an ad on craigslist for a GK Backline 600 head and a GK 410 Goldline cab for $400. I thought this sounded good. So I looked up some reviews and found probably 90% great reviews and 10% had some overheating issues. I tested it out and the guy sold it to me for $350. I haven't had a chance to give it a full power run yet but i really like what I've gotten out of it. But I think that I got a great deal with the head is priced at $300 itself new on most supplier sites.

comments?

Thumbs up Great deal!

Sounds like you got a great deal! More importantly it sounds like you are happy with the sound. I use a GK1001RB-II and a GK NEO212-II and I LOVE my rig. The Backline 600 is a great amp, especially for the money. GK makes great stuff; welcome to the world of GK power and tone, and welcome to talkbass!

That is definitely a good price on a first rig. I tip my hat to that. When you do decide to upgrade, get a better cab first.

If you are a fan, you can pick up an identical 410 for $249.00, which would make your rig sound a lot bigger, and use the maximum volume your head can.

I had a similar steal for $200 for a Carvin PB500 with a matching 1x15. Sounds like you got a good deal.

I would upgrad the cabs and get 2 identical 4x10's. The backline stuff is cheap quality.

+1 for now, just enjoy the new rig. But, when you're ready to upgrade the cab, forget about the 410/15 pairing. It's something that alot of players do, but it makes almost no sense, as the 15 does not provide more low end, but rather "holds back" the 410. Low end comes from the cab design and tuning, so any size speaker can produce it, and these days, most quality 410's have as much low end as most 1x15's do. Two of the same cab is always a better match. Who knows, you may like 2 15's, (I do). Just don't rush into anything, you're set for now. Have fun with that rig.
