Purchased QSC GX5, what do I need?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a QSC GX 5 to run as a bass head. My rig will be my Spector NS4 into VT Bass into Diamond Compressor to QSC GX5 to Traynor and Crate 1/15 (8 ohms each). Will my current instrument and speaker 1/4" cables work for input and output? And how will do I set up the GX5 for maximum output? Any help from GX5 users is appreciated!
Thank you and Happy Holidays to TB'ers everywhere!

I'm sure the answers are all in the manual.

You'll need a pair of Speakon-to-1/4" speaker cables, because AFAIK no modern QSC power amp uses 1/4" output connectors. Your existing instrument and patch cables will work fine on the input side.

Your pedals may not produce enough output to drive the GX5 to full power. They should get you started though.

Run as so..... Bass>comp>VT>GX5 1/4 out of VT into the input channel one. Hoping that one of you cabs has a jack to dasiy chain, link them together and run the 1/4 speaker cable to chan 1 output. Its a multi jack so speak-on and 1/4 go there. Crank the volume to max (or 3 o'clock to be safe)on the GX5 and use the volume on the vt as your new master volume. I used a GX5 and a Aguilar Tone Hammer like this with great results. That GX5 is now in my basement P.A. working double duty

I'm using a GX-5 with great results. The GX-5 has a combo jack so you can use the 1/4" or a speakon. I'm currently using a 14" heavy-duty 1/4" speaker cable when I only use one cabinet. When I use both of my 2 X 20 Avatars I use two speakons and run the GX-5 in stereo.

It' a solid amp, fan is a little noisy but live it's not noticed.

I stand corrected, the GX series has combo Speakon/1/4" jacks.

I bought one of these to use in the PA, but tried it last week as part of my bass rig. The output has combo jacks, the input does not.

You can use it in single channel mode, and get more than the power of one stereo channel (I think 850 watts at 4 ohms?), and of course could daisy chain. 2 ohm loads not recommended.
