QSC K series as a bass rig?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've got an ADA MB-1 as well as the 18v pre on my axe. So with the tube warmth and plenty of preamps, would one of the K10's make a killer gig rig?

I know it's class D amplification, but it is 1000w total (biamped). I have a really solid tour case with great wheels that the K10 would fit perfectly in so from top to bottom...

K10
4u rack (tuner, pre amp, power conditioner)
road case

This would be about 5-6 feet high. Super easy to roll the whole thing in in one trip (rack on top of road case, gig bag on my back). I am determined to make it into gigs in one trip like my guitar player and keyboardist.

What do you guys think? The one time I did play a bass through a K12 it sounded just like an Eden. Crystal clear and tight. I'm just worried a single cab (although powerful) is enough for my group. I have to keep up with a Boogie and a loud (but extremely tight and funky) drummer.

Thanks for any advice or feedback. Today is the last day to get 20% off a single item at Guitar-Mart and my GAS is revved up.

No way in hell that thing will have enough bass for anything but the smallest shows, IMHO. It has to be impossible physically to get enough bass out of a 10 that sensitive in the midrange.

Depends on who you're playing with. I have a K8 and a K10 and wouldn't hesitate playing bass through either with a not-too loud band. With a loud drummer? May be pushing it. Are you playing a 5-string?

I know a guy who does use a pedalboard and a K Series speaker as his bass rig. I think it's a K12, but it might be a K10. He does some looping, octave shifting, etc. He's happy, though that sort of setup might not be for everybody.

It's 1000 watts, but remember that's 500 watts for the LF and 500 for the HF. It's the nature of their respective segments of the audio spectrum that the LF amp channel will develop greater long-term power and the HF will have sharper short-term peaks of power.

Cool...thx for the responses. I'm thinking it's not gonna work for me. I DO play a 5 string, so the low B could be an issue. I'm currently perusing the gig rig threads to get more ideas.

Okay, that could be a difference. The guy I was talking about plays 6-strings, not 5's.

im confused; He plays a 6 string, but you said bass.. which should generally have a low B string also, like a 5 string.

So, can a K8 or K10 take a low B string?? I wanna get one for a practice amp / smaller gigs (which would be mic'd anyways).. but it needs to be able to take a low B good..

K8: -6db @ 66hz
K10: -6db @ 60hz

For my purposes the answer would be not only no but hell no. Mileage may vary of course. Any cabinet I'd want to use for a 5-string would need to be no worse than -3db @ 60hz, with some amount of power handling there.

If you want to try it, I would suggest using the "DEEP" setting. That adds some low end EQ boost for subwoofer-less systems, at the expense of headroom.

My band runs 2 K10s and 2 KSubs, that will do just fine.
