QSC PLX 1804 question

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay so the PLX 1804 doesn't have a clip limiter or the high pass filter like the PLX 2502. I want to buy the 1804 when I get the money because it's lighter, more watts, and less expensive than the 2502.

Without the high pass filter and clip limiter I'm worried about it hurting my big ben which is rated 100 dB SPL @ 2W1M (-6dB @ 25Hz and 3khz). Should I be worried about it hurting it? If so then I'll just get the 2502 instead.

For the price difference you can afford a pedal or a rack unit that duplicates all those extra features.

Bongomania had a very nice looking HPF made that I continually gas for

When I get my 1804, I'm planning on using fdeck's little $50 HPF-pre.

I'm not sure the 12db/oct would be quite steep enough for me, and it doesn't seem to have a 9v jack - maybe you could use one of those 9v battery adapters I guess.

I wouldn't worry too much about hurting it.

Still, if you're sticking to the M2 preamp you could either test it to see what HPF they already run (if any) and/or ask SWR whether they've designed one in there. And of course, use common sense when adjusting the EQ and your stage volume!

Are there any other devices like such? Are any rack mountable?

The BBE DS24 can do this.

I'm going to try the little HPF-pre box because I don't want more than a 4space rack. And I'd REALLY like a wireless unit (in addition to preamp and poweramp which take up 3 spaces). Hmmm....

Or, I could always run my preamp at a low shelving cut, right?
