Question about amp volume (Peavey Tour 450)

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently running a Peavey Tour 450 with an Acoustic B115cabinet. The amp is rated 450 watts @ 4 ohms. The 1x15 cab is rated 250 watts @ 8 ohms.

This week I am going to pick up an Ampeg 2x10 cabinet rated 250 watts @ 8 ohms. Running both cabs should allow me to get maximum wattage out of my head, correct?

What kind of volume increase should I expect with adding the new cabinet?

Quite a noticeable amount. Dropping the load to 4 ohms gets you the whole 450 watts, but more importantly, the added speakers will make for a good amount of increased volume.

Thanks for the reply! I'll give a report on the sound difference this Friday, when I pick up the cabinet.

It's very likely you'll be limited by the 210 cab when it comes to volume. The 210 may fart out before the 15 does. Keep your level in check so you don't blow the 210.

Don't assume the wattage rating will make a difference; speakers will fart out before you get them up near max power. When the speaker farts out, that's the practical limit, no matter how many watts it's taking.
