Question about heads and cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm looking into a hartke LH500, but I have 2 4 ohm 400 wat 4x10's. So I was wondering if I use the extension ports to connect the 2 amps will they both be getting the 500 watts or will the wattage be diminished because of the extension ports?

You can't use two 4 ohm cabs with the LH500, only one. It has a 4 ohm limit.

What does it mean in the manual with ", 2 x 320 watts @ 4 ohms"

+1 minimum impedance is just that. You cannot go below 4 ohms. And, two 4 ohm cabs equals 2 ohms, and goodbye amp.

It means that you are reading the specs for the LH1000, not the LH500. The LH500 does 350w at 8 ohms and 500w at 4.

I don't see anything like that in this manual. What it does say is "The model LH500 delivers 500 watss to a 4 ohm speaker or 350 watts to a 8 ohm speaker".

So does anyone have suggestions for what to get cab-wise for this head? It's the cheapest head I can get while pulling enough wattage to come close to competing with the guitars I'm in a band with.

You are reading the specs for the LH1000 in dual mono mode. The 500 can play one of your cabs but not both. It's not uncommon for two or more models to be combined in the same manual when they share the same preamp/features and maybe just have a different power section. For example the GK 700 and 1001 rb's or the Genz Streamliner 600 and 900.

Won't it blow the cab though?

No, but running both your cabs on the 500 will blow the amp.
