question about just using the Mxr M80 to shape my tone

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an MXR M80 DI Box and the tone it gives is killer,

Should I be plugging the output from it into the bass slot on my
Kustom 200 DE Head or should I be using the effects jack in the back so I can bypass the preamp?

Please advise!

I doubt the MXR puts out a high enough signal to push a poweramp, but try it, if it works, why not.

It does, and it does so easily. Just used it the first time at rehearsal tonight, plugged it into the effects return on a peavey tour sumthing sumthing. sounded good, just had to dial back the volume to about nine o'clock, otherwise the volume would blast me and my drummer clean across the room.

Only strange thing is that I found none of the knobs on the amp itself worked. This is to be expected, but the master volume didn't work either. Guess that's tied into the preamp. Always thought the master volume controlled the poweramp, not the pre. Guess I was wrong.

I'd plug it into the instrument input unless... it was providing too hot a signal. Like if it was clipping the input thingy. You know. The thing that blinks and says "hey, genius, your active bass is a little hot, hows about using the active input instead?" My amp has such a light. Even when I run my SansAmp BDDI into it, it doesn't light up. (Although I bet I could twist some knobs and make it light.)
