Question about my svt 4 pro and 4x10 classic ampeg

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an svt 4pro with a 4x10 ampeg classic cab. My question is that it's not loud eough, why? My buddies blow me out the water with their guitars and I even know a guy that is using a combo and is louder than me. What am I doing wrong? I also just changed the tubes, it helped a little but not enough.

Some questions:

What settings are you using on your amp? Are you using the EQ feature or do you bypass it? How long have you had the cab/amp?

Give us some background first and perhaps we can filter something out.

Tell us the tone settings - we need more details on everything. I think I already know what is going on....

But the more info we get, the better we can help you.

Its about about 5 years, I bought them at the same time used that is. It used to be loud but I dont know what happened. When I activate the eq it sounds low, even when I turn it off. It gets loud when I turn the level up when the eq is on, but it rattles pretty nasty, also when I deactivate it I turn the compression down but it also rattles.

Also I was using my Ibanez sr 505 hoping with the eq it has I would be able to do something, but to no use.

What rattles? Your amp? A blown speaker?

"When I activate the eq it sounds low, even when I turn it off." This isn't making any since. Except that you may be saying your volume is low?
"It gets loud when I turn the level up when the eq is on, but it rattles pretty nasty, also when I deactivate it I turn the compression down but it also rattles." I'm guessing that level is your volume and that when you turn your amp up something is rattling.

Sounds like the cab is in bad shape and/or you destroyed it. Put the controls on the bass at the flat position, put the 4 PRO controls at the noon position. EQ Sliders in the middle and have the EQ off for right now. Ultra Low and Ultra High buttons not pushed in. No compression and let us know if that fixes anything. Are you boosting the low end below 150hz?

It rattles like when theres too much bass, but the bass knob is about 11 o'clock, almost like the svt 4 is too much for my 4x10

Do you have another cab to try? Plug the 4 PRO into that one and let us know what it sounds like - with the knob settings I mentioned.

well duh! he's got 4 more speakers...that's significant. you want to be loud, you need more speakers. a 410 can get loud, but not like two of them. between the wattage boost you get and the extra speaker area, you can easily double your volume with the 410 by itself.

no idea what's wrong with your rig...you should have someone who knows something in your area to try out your rig. maybe they can help you narrow down what's wrong.
