Question about setting preamp and amp

I have just ordered a preamp (fishing pro EQ). I have an original ampeg UB and my amp is a GK markII with a 1x15 and a 2x10 peavey BW. My UB is not having the enough power it should, that's why I ordered the preamp. I'm not an electronics guy and my question is if the preamp EQ will override the GK EQ when connected or if both will still working. Suggestions welcomed. Thanks.

(I'm assuming that was a typo for "Fishman" Pro EQ.)

If you run the output of the preamp into the GK's effects return, you'll be bypassing the GK's preamp, which probably includes its EQ---basically you'll just be using the GK as a power amp. If you plug into the instrument input, your signal will be running through both preamps.

Depending what you mean by "not enough power", the preamp may or may not help. If the limitation is your amp's power section, it won't get you any more oomph there, but if your instrument is putting out a weak signal that can't drive the amp hard enough, it should help.

Thanks Ntenny. Your post was very helpful. Yes, my problem is a weak signal from the instrument and I will try with the preamp as much people recommended in an old thread I read about this theme.
Thanks again.
