question about speaker

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a Carvin cab and head from about the mid 80's,I just replaced the speaker the amp is near mint all knobs are there and there are no tears in any of the vinyl so it warranted a speaker replacement.I came into a brand new never sold or used 15 inch Altec Lansing speaker(the one I took out was also a Altec Lansing)the speaker says 16 ohms on it what does this mean?I know a litttle very little about ohms but mostly I thought everything was 8 ohms.It worked fine at practice do I plug in a second speaker with any worry? someone please bring me up to speed with this thanks
