Question about using an SVT-7PRO without a cab

Sign in to disble this ad
Our band is recording next month and our guitarist/sound engineer would like to run my SVT-7PRO with only the DI and no speaker load. I've read elsewhere that it is generally safe to run a SS amp without a load but don't know how this applies to the 7PRO due to its tube preamp.

Can we do this without risk to the head?

safe with no load ? thats new to me. i would plug a cord into the "power amp input" to shut off the power amp, (or the return of the effects send) just in case. let the other end of the cord hang free so it doesnt touch anything.

Mine's at my rehearsal space right now, so I can't verify, but I believe the power amp is turned off if you plug into the headphone jack. Read the manual to verify. Having said that, I believe that it's okay to run without a load anyway.

It's a class D power amplifier. Nowhere in the manual does it say it has to have a load connected to the speaker output. So, yes it is save to use without a load.

Edit: You can run the amp with only using the DI.

Yes, the ONLY time you need a load is with a tube power section. A tube preamp doesn't care a hoot.

I had thought of using the headphones also. I appreciate all the help in figuring this out. Thank you, my fellow bassists.

+1. You only have to be concerned with a tube power amp section...it has less to do with the tubes and everything to do with the output transformers.
