Question for the aussies

Sign in to disble this ad
hey guys stupid question, if i buy an amp from the states can i simply change the power plug to australian type when it gets here? I know the voltage is slightly different compared to the usa, but im thinking the amps should be designed to be used anywhere on most standard household power etc..... any help will be much appreciated!!!

It really depends on the amp. And the difference is not slight - Oz voltage is double US.

The LH500 and LH1000 have a 115V/230V selector switch on the back panel.

You'll need to check if there is a voltage switch on the back of the amp first. Try to locate the manual of whatever amp you're looking at, and it should tell you. Otherwise, look for pictures of the rear panel of the amp.
Assuming it does have a voltage switch, you can just change the plug to the Aussie one.
A few amps are starting to have these switches now, and with the EXTREME markup of bass amps in Oz, it's starting to look like the way to go.

Enough generic speak, it looks like the LH1000 DOES have the voltage switch, so this makes things easy: purchase->receive->change plug->play!

Some amps (including my RH450) have internal automatic switching -- plug it in anywhere you can find a standard IEC cord. Bought it from the US for a great price, no problems whatsoever.
