Question on Combo Amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know if a Combo amp with a Extra speaker output can be used as a Extra speaker powered by another amp if the amp in the combo was to go out on a gig are do you think it would damage the internal amp by doing so.I am sure they are parallel I would think but will it feed back to combo amp?Im not very good at trying to explain this!

Here is a pic of a Puma Combo I am talking about.Wondering if it can be used as a external speaker in a emergency by plugging from another amp to the external output on this Puma 112 combo? Are would there need to be some kind of switch to terminate any thing from getting from the internal speaker back to the internal amp?The internal speaker is a 8 ohm load.

If I understand you, you'd want to back-feed a separate head into the output of this combo - right?

Don't do it unless you can break any connection the combo amp has with it's own driver first.

It would then become just a passive driver.

I would take it this way as well. It likely means you can plug another speaker into the combo giving you 2 speakers being powered by the amp in the combo and not disabling the combo's amp portion just to use it as another unpowered speaker cabinet. The manual should be available online somewhere to be sure but that's almost always how combo's are setup. I've never seen one that works opposite. Your idea of hooking up a different amp to it would be considered "opposite" of the norm.

You could rig it up to work that way in a pinch but you wouldn't be using any jacks on the combo. You'd leave the head shutoff, disconnect it's speaker wire from the internal speaker in the combo and then rig a speaker wire from the speaker to the other amp, likely running the wire out a port hole or something.

That is what I was thinking but wasnt sure. This is like the only combo Amp I have ever owned. It was just a thought! It would probably take a 3 way switch to work without have to disconnect all the time.I,ll just use it as it is!Thanks
