Question concerning (2) 100watt amps vs (1) 200watt amp

would I be better off with one 250watt amp or running two 100 watt American made B100R's. Sound wise I love the B100R. Financially picking up a second is much cheaper than buying a new portaflex and cabinet. Lastly, how would I split my signal to make them both sound great.

Assuming all else is equal, the end result would be the same. If using 2 you'd slave one to the other. If you're talking combo amps, the different box sizes, speaker specs and number of speakers and preamp voicings will make a big difference, the total power being equal or close to it won't.

If your 200W amp also has 2 speakers and stuff, it'll be about the same, but having 2 amps mean you can also have 2 different kind of tones blended together.

2 amps sitting next to each other in a store.
Pots are +- 15% or more in tolerance.
No two will sound the same with the same knob setting.
But it would hardly matter.
Stack them vertical

That amp has a line out, maybe jump that to the next, and I would also stack them

I just wouldn't be excited about owning two identical 115 combo amps (unless I had one for 2 locations). My GAS would sound like a retirement specialist, and say diversify! Pick up a different (yet somewhat similar) PF 350 or 500... And a 115 cab, or two...

Idk.. I'd try them together before I pulled the trigger you might find you don't like not having access to the eq/gain/vol of the 2nd one if they're stacked. I've just never ran out and had to have 2 of the same thing aside from extension Cabs, you have to own those in pairs lol!

I can see at least two advantages to adding a second combo rather than starting over with a bigger rig -- especially given that the combo is a B100R. First, it will give you the option of only bringing one when you only need one. Second, you can split your signal, rather than simply using one as a slave, and do something different with the signals going to the different amps. For example, you could run any effects that you have into one but not the other. This works especially well for those effects that suck bottom end, as you still have one amp thumping out the clean signal.

My own experience with this from stacking a B50R on a B100R, and that's something else to think about (if you can find a B50R). The 50 sounds every bit as loud as the 100, at least in part because it puts out a lot more upper-mid but less low-end booty. The combination of the 100 and 50 together works great and provides the full range. I used a Sansamp to split the signal, and then sent the effected signal to the 50 (with my effects in line as well) and the clean signal to the 100.

And, as an extra bonus, the two stacked amps look awesome!
