Question: hartke HA1200

I have a hartke HA1200 120W amp and I cannot figure out what the little knob labelled shape does. There is also an in/out button next to it. Does anyone else know or have experience with this amp? I think it is quite an old amp, picked it up from a second hand shop.

Download this link for a similar amp, it may explain it use of the shape function. It changes a little from amp to amp, but you'll get the idea.
