Unhappy Question... having a brain fart

Sign in to disble this ad
This just came to my mind and I can't think about it now and could use some help.

I have a 210 now that I am looking to replace with 2 112neos from Avatar.

I was thinking about it and with everything else in my head I can't figure something out. My 210 now is 250W and I am putting 280 into it. With the 2 112s they would be 250 each and i would be putting 250 into both. The reason I am changing cabs is that I want more headroom from my amp and more volume and a bigger sound.

Is it going to be any louder? 2 tens getting 250 in one box or 2 boxes with 1 speaker each getting 250 each.?

Any help would be great helping with my brain fart. Or if you have any thoughts on the setup or expierence with that setup, all input would be very welcome. I am getting them on just reading reviews on talkbass.

Thanks guys and gals.

You'll have two channels of 250 watts running, as opposed to 250 watts in one channel.

I presume your amp will be running at 4 ohms (maybe 2, don't know the specs of your amp), and instead of at 8 ohms, which means it will be louder.

It can be disputed whether speaker size and coverage create more volume, or more watts does.

Personally, I'd trade the set up. 2 1x12's sound so much better in my ears than a single 2x10, especially if they are stacked up off the ground.

Ya. it will be 4 ohm total load. it is a Eden WTX-500

I know that volume is all about speakers but I am replacing 2 10s with 2 12s. Not too much more speaker surface area.

I don't think you'll get too much increase if any if the total loads in each case stays at 4Ω.

Actually, it's 44 percent more surface area. Because you'll now be running 500 watts into 226 square inches of speaker instead of 280 watts into 157 square inches, heck yes, it will be louder.

I think the 210 is 8-ohm, since he says he was putting only 280 watts into the cab.

+1, I believe 2 12's would be louder than 2 10's, in any case. With the (supposed) increase in power as well, should be noticeably louder.
