Question for Markbass F1 Owners

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys/gals,

I picked up a new F1 head the other day, and it is running through an Epifani UL-310 cabinet. I have it raised up to ear level right now. After playing for a bit, I turned down the gain and volume. You can hear an audible hiss coming through the tweeter, even with the bass unplugged. Not too loud, but it's there until you shut OFF the amp, sort of sounds like air escaping from a tire.

My question is this: is this normal? I have never had a cabinet so close to ear level, so may have never even noticed with other amps over the years.

Thanks for any input.

Yes, there is a very low level upper frequency hiss with the F1. It is very soft, and does not increase with the master volume, and IME can only be heard if you have your ear pretty close to a tweeter with the tweeter turned up a bit.

Absolutely zero issue IMO and IME, other than possibly close mic'ing in a studio situation with a cab with a tweeter.

Enjoy that rig... WONDERFUL sounding IMO! I have about a zillion gigs under my belt with the F1 and various cabs, including the EpiUL's. Really nice sounding!

Yep. That's probably the case.
Most amps will have some hiss, some more than others, but once the band is playing, it should be inaudible.
If it's extremely loud, there could be a problem somewhere.

+1 ^. I doubt you would ever hear it in a band situation unless you had the treble dimed and the tweeter up all the way.

Thanks for the info everyone. I can't see it ever being an issue unless I was recording the cabinet with a microphone.

Its unnoticeable at any volume above 'ear to the cab in a dead silent room' for me, but it's there. Most amps I've played have had worse, except Genz's Shuttle.

So far, I'm really digging the sound of the two together.
