question with my ampeg amp

Sign in to disble this ad
I should know this, but i dont. I have an ampeg b2r amp. Im looking to get a smaller cab for it. On the back of the amp it says 200watts at 8ohms and 350watts at 4ohms. And there is 2 output jacks for speakers. So if i just run 1 line from the amp to the cab it would be 200watts at 4ohms. And i would need to run a line out of both jacks on the amp to a cab to get the 350. Is this right? Im thinking of getting a 2x10 cab and most are rated at 200watts. I just dont want to blow it up. Thanks

nope, it doesn't matter how you run your lines. if your cab(s) total up to 4 ohms, the amp will run at 4 ohms, and likewise for 8 ohms.

If you're looking at 2x10's- check out the Ampeg 210Av. Nice vintage style cab that sounds like 1/4 of a real 810.

Just to expound: You can hook up one 8 ohm cab and will get 200 watts out of the amp, hook up two 8 ohm cabs and get 350 watts out of the amp, or one 4 ohm cab and get 350 watts. (Two 4 ohm cabs would mean a load less than 4 ohms and may fry the head if not rated lower than 4 ohms.)

And you don't necessarily have to use both jacks on the amp. You can "daisy chain" the cabinets by runing a speaker cable (don't use an instrument cable) from the amp -> 1st cab -> speaker cable to the 2nd cab.

No, running both jacks to one cab will not "get the 350". You need two 8 ohm cabs.

ok, it makes a little more sense. now the cab im looking at says 400watt at 8ohm. so my amp would only be able to push 200watt max to it?
