Question from a Noob

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a EA VL210 and a EA 500 amp, the one with the white face. I occasionally get together with friends and play top 40, and funk. I've been gassing for the new EA micro 550, but haven't heard that much about it. I'm also considering the GK MB 500 and the Genz Benz Shuttle 600. My question is whether either one of these will work better/be louder with my EA 210 cab. If that question makes sense. I don't know much about ohms other than the 210 is an 8 ohm cabinet.

My EA 500 works fine, but I plan to sell it and get one of the new micro amps. Thanks in advance for your comments.

Are you a noob to talkbass or are you a noob to playing the bass? If it's just a noob here, GK's micro heads get some love here and just plugging into them/testing them I'd say they sound as good as any, maybe better. The MB series cabs are budget items though. There's a thread or 2 on here regarding bracing/lining modifications to make them "good" cabs but they don't come that way. Genz is a worthy contender for good/light stuff.

P.S. -- If your'e a noob to playing bass in general and you're gigging EA gear, just shove that stuff in the back of your Corvette, stick a bleach blond in there while you're at it, shutup and enjoy. It'll take you 10 years to appreciate what you have anyway in either case.

LOL Thanks much Will. I joined this site over a year ago and have been lurking for awhile. I call myself a Noob because I've been dabbling for years and haven't learned much about playing. The only gigging I do is over a friend's, but I plan on buckling down and really learning how to play.

I know just enough to ask stupid questions. I was looking at the GK amp because it's easier to tote around, but if I get your drift, I should leave well enough alone. I appreciate your wisdom.
