Question regarding Acoustic/Ampeg rig

Hey guys, I am hopefully going to purchase an Acoustic B200H head with the B115 cab in the next few days. I already have an Ampeg 210 from my old micro-vr rig. Has anyone run these together? I think it will work since they are both 8 ohm but I wanted to know if anyone had tried it and what kind of tone they got. I have heard that acoustics and ampegs don't mix well.

I'm not using the exact rig you describe. I have an Acoustic B600H into an Ampeg 410 HLF. Cab is 4 ohm and the head is good down to 2 ohm. I guess that I have about 400 give or take going into the cab. They play well together....

I'm glad to hear that. I have heard people say that ampeg cabs don't sound great with acoustic heads.

any time you mix cabs it's a crapshoot. some work well together, some don't. but the only way to tell is to do it because the behavior is unpredictable.

I ran the B-600H into and Ampeg 810 and it felt and sounded pretty good - a little moodier and deeper/thumpier - not as crisp - but then again I want/like the old school sound of Surf, Motown and early rock.

Blues would work through that combination too as far as I am concerned - so I can imagine the Ampeg cabs would be happy on an Acoustic head 200 or 600 models.

Jimmy's right though - it can be somewhat unpredictable. Try them yourself at a store that has both for testing on the floor as I wouldn't buy something like this set up online.

I think some people tend to look down on the Guitar Center's version of Acoustic, probably because of the price points being lower than alot of other so called high-end gear.

But I have to say that I was really impressed with the tone of the new Acoustic amps. I plugged into a B200 combo at GC a few weeks ago, and said "wow...nice tone!"

Note to the OP: I'm sure you are already aware of this. The head in the B200 combo amp is the same as the separate B200H head. The speaker in the B200 combo is 4 ohms, so it's allowing the 200 watt amp head to provide the full 200 watts for that combo amp. The separate B115 cab is 8 ohms. So when you plug the B115 cab into the B200H head, you will only be running the head at around 140 watts. Plugging in a second B115 (or using your Ampeg 2x10 8-ohm cab as the second cab) would provide you with the full 200 watts.

I think I'm going to take the risk and order the B200h and B115. If it doesn't sound good, I'll sell or trade the ampeg for another acoustic cab. Right now I have no amp since my micro died on me so I have to get something anyway. I like what I've heard about the acoustics.
