Questions regarding my head

Sign in to disble this ad
I know its been discussed over and over, however none of those posts have what im looking for.

The LH 500 has 2 outputs on the back, both of them are rated at 8 ohm according to the painted letters next to them. However the manual says its rated at 500 W at 4 ohm.

Wheres my 4 ohm setting at?

Your cabinet is rated at 4ohms so all you have to do is one cable. The cab determines the ohms not the head. You have the option of two 8 ohm cabs but you don't have to go that route.

so the cab pulls the power from the head, like a water reserve so to speak?

Yeah. Basically each of those sockets can be used seperately to power a 4 ohm cab. However if you use them both the total can't be less than 4 ohms. Soyou could attach 1
8 ohm cab to each socket or 1 8 ohm cab and daisy chain another 8 from the 1st one and not use the second at all. You could also plug in a 16 ohm and a 16 ohm to get 8 ohms. Your power would be cut but it would be perfectly acceptable. Now if you try to plug 2 4 ohm cabs in you would actually drop to 2 ohms and could potentially fry your head. Your Hartke should be very happy with your Ampeg.

While audibly it won't matter, the speakon is a much superior connector and should be used whenever possible.
