quick eden WT550 question...2.66 ohm stable?

Sign in to disble this ad
Can I use 3 8 ohm cabs with the eden wt550? Its an 2ohm stable amp so it should be able to. Dumb question (I know) I just want some piece of mind, has anyone done this without a problem? Stoked to get it and even more stoked to power 2 gs210's and a gs212 if I can!

Peace

Yes, the way these solid state amps work is that ANY impedance ABOVE their minimum is absolutely fine. They don't work like all tube amps that require a more 'exact' impedance match due to the output transformer used in those designs.

awesome, thanks guys! Yeah, thats exactly what I was worried about that it had to either be 8 4 or 2ohms. Good deal!

Absolutely, I've done that more times than I can count.

The WT550 will be fine with 2.66 ohm.

OTH, if you want some piece of mind, talk to Dr. Lecter.

I've been using mine like that (4 ohm D410XLT, 8 ohm D210XLT) on many, many gigs now, and it's working and sounding fantastic.

I bought it with the idea that I'd add a power amp to the setup down the road, but I honestly have NO need for any more power out of it.

I bought one for the backline at an after-ski bar here, running two Bag End 4ohm (total impedance 2ohms) cabs about 150 days a year for 3-4 hours at a time since 3 years ago. We had to get it serviced once a few months ago, turns out the power switch needed replacing, otherwise good to go. This under the hands of constantly rotating bands, extreme conditions like huge temperature swings (retractable roof in midwinter that is opened briefly to cool the room), and regular beer and sweat showers. Pretty impressive.

Quick thread resurrection - I'm thinking of doing 2.66 with my WT550 now. I have a 4 ohm D410XLT and would add the 8 ohm D210XLT.

A couple questions:

Just to be sure, you connect each of the above mentioned cabinets to a separate output on the Eden? I think that's parallel, but I've never been good with amp load stuff.

I had been thinking about just getting a second 4 ohm D410XLT to run the head at 2 ohms, but I wasn't sure if that would be less stable.

Opinions welcome!

amp -> cab1
____-> cab2
yes, that's parallel
will work fine

amp -> cab1 -> cab2
is also parallel
will work fine too

2 ohm is very stable on the WT550
if you need the volume, this 2x 410 is a great rig
