Quick SVT-CL Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Did a search and didn't see an answer. Also didn't find it in the manual but it is probably common knowledge here.

How do the speaker outs on a modern production SVT-CL work? Can you use only the speakon OR the 1/4", or can I plug one cab into the speakon and one into the 1/4"?

Also, why only give the amp 1 speakon out but 2 1/4"s? Doesn't make sense to me :x

2x 1/4" TS will carry about the same current as 1 Speakon, so I guess that's where that comes from.

All the speaker jacks are in parallel on the SVT-CL - you use the switch to select output impedance. You can use the jacks in any combination.

You can run Speakon from your head to the first cab, and Speakon from cab 1 to cab 2, if you want to avoid 1/4" jacks completely.

Any difference with that compared to direct runs to each cab other than the fact that if the first cab fails the second one doesn't get signal?

I'm picking up an SVT today and my two cabs are speakon only. I have female 1/4" to male speakon adapters but I'm still new to tubes and am always paranoid, checking to make sure my 1/4" cables haven't slipped out of the adapter before I power on my head. I'd probably prefer to run the speakon out to cab 1 then connect cab 1 to cab 2 and just use normal speakon cables.

That'll work fine, and there should be no audible differences.

Even if the first cab fails you should still get signal to the second cab (since they're wired in parallel), unless it fails so bad that it somehow opens up the wires between the first cab's two jacks (highly unlikely and next to impossible IMO).
