Quilter Amps From Early 70's

Anyone remember that tiny company that made Quilter amps in I think Huntington Beach, Calif. I had a Quilter 'Duck' head and a 15" Sunda Fold horn Bass Cab (speaker pointer backwards and the thing weighed a ton). It was a really bassey sounding amp. Here's a picture from the 70's of my buddy playing my Ricky thru it.

Hmm. IIRC, that "tiny" company was later called Quilter Sound Company, better known as QSC. Pretty sure anyone who knows a thing or two about pro audio would've heard of them.

Hardly tiny anymore.

Huh.

QSC Audio Products

They apparently make more than a couple of heads these days.

I found this link about their early days.

QSC Company History

It didn't hurt to have bands like Led Zeppelin, Cream, and The Doors endorsing their amps.

Pat Quilter started in a small shop in Costa Mesa, CA. In 1970 he had a promotion for a free bass or guitar with the purchase of an amp. I bought the "Big Bertha" bass amp and got a free Gibson EB-0. The Big Bertha head was a 400 watt powerhouse. The cab had FOUR 15's with incredibly well tuned ports. The box was damn near as deep as it was wide. I'm 6' tall and I was eye level with the controls. It was huge, heavy and a pain to drag around but it was one loud, low end monster of a rig. Perfect for max-volume early 70s rock.
