For those of us here who have not seen, Jess Oliver, the genius behind the AMPEG B-15 and the entire Portaflex series, as well as the Ampeg Baby Bass, passed away yesterday.

Just a year ago Jess sold off most of his personal amp collection, and I'm hoping some of the TBers were able to get a piece of this history.

Godspeed Mr. Oliver. Your contribution to the bass can NEVER be duplicated or replaced. Finally Jamerson and the rest of the bassists in heaven will have the ultimate amp tech.

My sympathies, condolences and prayers go out to the Oliver family and all those touched by him.

Tom Richards

Physically gone, but the legacy will last. A hundred years from now studios will still be using SVTs and Protaflexes.

RIP.

Right on, Tom. Not only that but he designed some pretty sharp guitar amps as well. But his heart was in the bass.

What a shame. There was just an article on him in Bass Player a few months ago. At least he was able to see the new Heritage B-15 built and be part of it.

RIP. He actually was nice enough to answer my emails and some questions a few years ago regarding my b15n.

He was such a personable guy, my dad actually got to know him very well over the past few years making several trips to visit him. He truly was the "Godfather of Bass Amplification"

A true gentlemen! My friend had a V4 and an Oliver amp re-done by Jess about 10 years ago. I tagged along. Jess has a ton of stories, showed up his amps, shop and even the old Chrysler with the blue-checkered tolex top. A genius with total class!

Proud owner of a 60's Porta-Flex SB-12. Now, more than ever I know I am custodian of a piece of bass amp history.
