Rack case covering question

Sign in to disble this ad
I just finished building a 3 space rack for my amp. Looks pretty good, so far. I wanted to know if anyone had experience using rubberized truck bed liner as a case covering instead of tolex? Is this a viable option? I have doubts about my tolex covering abilities, and am not a big fan of case carpet.

Should be lots of good Search hits in the Amps section. Lots of discussion on doing this for speaker cabs.

Most racks have more of a laminated (ish) plywood I believe.

I used 3/4 plywood, wood glue, and lots of screws, so it's plenty sturdy. I plan to buy some amp corners and side handles. I am wondering how well the textured truck bed material would stick to rough plywood. Not trying to make it too pretty, just rugged good looks.

Like skin, if you radius all sharp edges. It does tend to crack at sharp corners. Otherwise, it is very tough and scratch/chip resistant.

Duratex is latex-based and very easy to apply.

Truck-bed liner could take days (weeks?) to stop smelling.

Thanks for the heads up on Duratex. Looks like exactly what I'm looking for, but it is super expensive. 1 gallon costs more than what I have invested in the rack so far. I may have to resort to tolex and find someone to help me with it.
