Rack case problem

Sign in to disble this ad
I just bought a used GATOR 4u rack case.
I installed couple 1U devices (a furman conditioner and a reverb)
Now,the problem I see is that the lids have a notch inside all around that fits into the case when is closed. But when the devices are installed, the face plate where the screws are,are in the way on this notch and ,while the latches can keep it close, you can see that is not completely close.
You can see in the picture what the case look like, and the rail where the screw goes, right after this you see the guide where the lid notch goes in,all around the opening.
The devices extend a bit beyond the rail and prevent the lid from closing well.
Anyone with the same problem and a solution?
(I can only see to cut the notch or to cut the end of the face plate of the units, which I won't do.)

Hi.

I have a remedy, but I'd be willing to bet You ain't gonna like it.

Buy a rack that's actually intended for housing rack devices.

However, IIRC there was two different lid depths offered by Gator back in the day, don't know if that's still an option.

While I can see the appeal of plastic racks, and was even fooled (once) by the looks and promises of SKB a few decades ago, I won't be fooled twice if You know what I mean.

Regards
Sam

I understand you perfectly.

There is no need at the moment for me to go for the perfect thing,as there are no gigs booked at this time.
But I am sure your experience will help me decide in the future (hopefully).
It cannot happen I am the ONLY one using this cases and finding this problem, because I see many members here using the same cases, going by the pics posted.
Again,I would think someone did something about it,and I want to hear it.

Is the from of the unit flat or curved? If flat can you mount the screws through the rails and then mount the furman then use nylocks on the back. Need more space use washers between rail and unit to extent is further back. No ideal but a solution

Usually if your amp has those handles/rails that extend past the lenght of what the lid can cover, you'll just have to take them off. Assuming you can take them off, because if you can't.... I'm not sure how to help you, LOL.

I had a gator and I was tough fitting all my stuff in it ... I upgraded to a deeper rack... Glad I did!

screws

Are the screws round headed that are securing your units into the case? If so, replace them with flat head screws.

Im not sure what model this is, but does the unit have both front and back rails, and are the lids identical? What is the rail attached to, and can it be relocated inward if it needs to be? I have never had a gator or an SKB like this model. All of mine have aluminum edging on both touching surfaces of lid and case.
