Rack Into PA Without Cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
Going to rehearsal tonight and using my new rig for the first time.

II finally graduated from the combo amp setup in favor of a rack/cab setup, but for rehearsal, I was thinking about just running my head out to the PA and going direct. I'm using a Fortress One into a Nemesis NA-320 head with a DTR-1 for the sake of being in tune.

Is there any reason why I couldn't just use the XLR out to go to the PA head instead of lugging my cab also? Obviously, for gigs, I would bring a cab or two, but I'd rather not lug everything if I can avoid it.

Thoughts?

Unless the soundman is going to be sending the bass signal back to you in the monitors, you won't be able to hear yourself. Often monitors aren't built to deliver bass, focusing primarily on vocals, so even if the bass signal is sent to the monitors, the monitors themselves might not be able to hold up.
I think you'll still need (and want) at least one cab.

Yeah, you can certainly do that. Save yourself the trouble of hauling a cab to practice.

I did this for a couple of practices. I ended up bringing my cab anyway, but my head doesn't have a post DI out, and I didn't like not have the tone shaping & compression from my head. I think you Nemesis head has a pre/post switch.
