Rack Kit for GK MB200?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone - thanks in advance for your help. I just ordered a GK MB200 and would very much like to rack mount it.

I know it's tiny and is easily carried about on its own, but I'd prefer to mount it along with my tuner and FX just to keep it protected and make set-up and breakdown that much easier.

I don't see a kit available on the GK site, and the owner's manual makes no mention of it so I assume it's likely not available through conventional means...I'm hoping someone can tell me otherwise, or perhaps knows of a custom fabricator that does quality work.

Thanks again!

Can't say that I've seen a rack kit for the MB200 either, but can tell you that it does have screw holes on both sides which look as if they are for rack ears. The unit itself is only half a rack space, I bet you could find something that will work if you look. Alot of wireless systems are half racks and I know they are mountable, maybe something like that would work for you.

The screw pattern is the same at the MB500. Sooner or later they will make rack ears, but since it has screw holes, you could make your own.

Hey guys - just received the amp today and I love it. Sounds like my old 400RB in a tiny package.

No word yet on the rack ears, but I've done some looking around and found some custom fabricators on the web. I would bet that someone who installs computer servers and the like could be a source of info since the concept is nearly identical to what we're discussing here.

Wes - if the screw pattern is the same, I assume the kit for the 500 could do the job, after a little custom work??

I'll keep everyone posted if I find out anything new.

I think it's a good guess that GK expected that no one would want to bother racking this amp since the whole selling point for it is size / weight. I know that I wouldn't bother - I'd pop it in my gig bag!

You would have to stretch the metal to reach the 19" rack width...

I bet you could easily attach it to a rack shelf

What size are the screws that attach into the amp?

What I want to know is what size are the screws that attach into the amp?

Its pretty easy to just to go down to home depot and make something work. Currently I am using double-sided tape and friction, but definitely want to get some more security in there.

Any joy with finding rack ears or similar? I've just ordered an MB200 and are searching in vain looking for the same....

Bump.

Did the O.P. ever find a custom fab. person? I'll bet if we placed a bulk order, we might get a good deal if we ordered 10 sets or more...

Does anyone know if G/K will release some? The ones for the MB500 look really nice - better than a 'custom' home job...

I posted on their forum, but no answer.

Hey guys:

Nothing new to report. I decided that if and when I really needed to think about transporting my gear on a regular basis I'd probably want to step up to something bigger anyway.

If I really wanted to make this happen I'm sure I could come up with something, but I have a little OCD so fit and finish are of extreme importance to me.

I'll revive my original plea to micro gear manufacturers to develop a micro rack standard. Wouldn't it be nice to rack up a micro amp with a micro tuner and FX unit? It just doesn't make sense to put these things in a 19" box.......IMHO!

Ditto, I want it to look nice, not home-made.

I was thinking of joining two side by side and rack mounting it with a 500 kit. Have a two 4 ohm cab setup with each amp hitting a separate cab with its own EQ, Just think of the possibilities

This is what I'm thinking of doing right now with a Mesa Powerhouse 4X12 and Powerhouse 1200. Does anyone have any idea of how I could mount both of these amps in the same space?

Two of them will technically fit side by side in 1U, but the fan's come in on the left side, and blow across to the right. These amps run pretty cool, but you need to make sure that you have enough ventilation. If it does get warm, your warm exhaust air of the left amp will blow right into the intake of the right amp. I would probably just stack 2 on a single U rack shelf (in a 2space rack), and use the other half rack that is left over for a tuner or wireless receiver.

I bought a 19" 1u shelf, with tons of pre drilled holes in the bottom. Use cable ties to secure gear. Works great...

can't recall the mfg, but they are cheap...

What cabs are you running through? I'm running a Mesa PH412 + PH1200 and really would like to know if these amps will be loud enough in a hard rock setting with both of these big cabs. I'm trying to lighten the weight of my rack as I have a bad back (band mates will help with cabs) and I think two of these amps are the answer if they'll work for me.

I have done this before as well and it works just fine. The mini rack handles are a good place to secure with the cable ties and then another across the back.
