Rack for my Gear (Pearson vs SKB)

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm currently looking to get a 6U rack case to rack up my cheap power conditioner, my korg tuner, maybe a drawer, and my GK 700 RBII. I've been tossing around ideas, and after a lot of reading, I'm torn between these two options.

I found a SKB RLX6 6U Rolling Rack Case for $139 and free shipping, never been used. I feel like this is a pretty killer deal; however, I'm not sure how I feel about it quite yet considering the wheels and such.

My other option has been a 6U Pearson Deep Rack. (PEARSON CASES)
My only concern is weight and durability. I've heard nothing but good things, but how much do these racks weigh? I want to try and keep my weight somewhere in the 30-35 lb range and I'm not sure if this is going to put me overboard.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

i have this exact rack case from Pearson (and two other Pearson cases for PA gear) and its been carrying around my amp/preamp/tuner/furman for years now. Its very well built and has been very durable (as have all of our Pearson cases).

I cannot remember the unloaded weight of my rack but it was probably similar or a little heavier than a comparable SKB, but I think the hardware on the Pearson case will be more durable than the SKB (judging from the different SKB cases I have dealt with in the past)

Right now I have an almost 40lb Behringer EP1500 amp in mine, but thats getting replaced with a lighter Crown Drivecore which should reduce the weight of my rack by nearly 30 pounds (my back will be happier)

Anyway, Pearson makes a good case.

That's awesome. I'm glad to get more good reviews from Pearson. So you're thinking that the weight of the Pearson is going to be somewhere in the 15-20lb range then?
