Rackmounted Tuners and Rackmounted Compressors

Sign in to disble this ad
Are there any good ones? Willing to pay for a good one, but not too much. Tuner as little as possible but will pay a good amount for the compressor if it's a good one. Thanks!

For the compressor piece: Grab a cold one, kick back, and enjoy.

Unfortunately, not many companies are putting out rack tuners. Even Korg quit making them.

If Korg and others are stopping their production of rack tuners, then I'm sure they have a good reason based on market trends because I would think that rack riggers still need to tune their instruments.

I did not want to string a pocket-sized or stomp box tuner to my rack, same with a compressor (if not a rack version.)

I, too, had the same questions at one time and I ended up with an all-in-one solution for my main rig.

I am not suggesting that you consider re-inventing your wheel, but I would like to show you what I am using these days, and if you continue reading through the thread, I talk of tuner + compressor topics that factored into my decision.

Behringer Bass V-AMP Pro

Good luck!

P.S. To perhaps spare you the long thread, the rack mounted unit I am using contains both a built-in tuner + compressor among other things.

For a rack compressor I'd recommend the dbx 166xl, can't go wrong with that one imo.

Hi!
It all depends on your rig/way you set up - If you're going to put your compression in through your effects loop, use a rack comp - Ashley ones are great!
What I reccommend is a pedal compressor - the DOD Milk Box is the BEST! - this allows you to put compression before eq,etc..and tweak the compressed sound, not compress the eq'ed sound - which to my ears, fingers, etc...feels much better!
I Put the Milk Box in my rack by attatching a 1/2 rack adaptor for a generic rack device - costs $10(ish) plus some gaff tape/double-sided tape. It's been in there for 3 years now and is perfect!
As far as tuners go, Korg ones are the best I've come across - but $300+???
I use the $35 Korg tuner, and put it in my rack in the little 2 unit storage drawer. Then attatch it to a visible height with velcro at gigs - prob solved!
All the best with your music Morson93!

TC Electronic Triple C is a very good compressor for bass even the Rane DC24...

The Korg DTR-1 and DTR-2 are the nicest looking rack tuners ever made in my opinion. They can be found used for around $75-100 and they work wonderfully. They are the silver faced aluminum versions as opposed to the later black plastic models that were available from Korg. There is not much available new these days but one of the older Korg units would be sweet in your rack.

All of the highest-quality compressors are rack compressors, and, honestly, all of the highest-quality ones I have tried work exceptionally well on bass. Check out Chandler, Universal Audio and API for starts.

For rack compressors, I'd recommend a Rane DC-24. Discontinued, but they pop up on the 'bay for around $100 fairly often.
