rank loudness of common cab/driver configs Ok, this is kind of dumb--or at least of dubious utility. But I want to know which cab is going to do more volume. All things being equal (which of course they aren't). I'll take a stab, from loudest to quietest. 8x10 6x10 2x15 4x10 3x10 2x12 2x10 1x15 1x12 1x10 Again, I'm not looking for a 400 comment thread about how some cab manufacturers tune their cabs differently than others or how Eminence Kappalite Neo 10s have more x-max than some other brand of driver. Nor am I looking for a thread about the subjective qualities of volume or the vagaries of EQing. All things being equal, which cab is going to be louder given the same twist of the volume knob? |
With all things being equal. My vote for would be the cab that has most speaker area moving the most air. The 810. I will say, in perceived volume. My Mesa Powerhouse 2x15" "sounds" louder than my Fender PRO 810. |

You called it, even spelled dubious correctly. Welcome to your very own 30 pager. Can you indicate which factors you would like to remain equal across 10's 12's and 15's? :eyebrow: |
Swapped 2x12 and 3x10, which is just my opinion, all things being equal ;) 8x10 6x10 2x15 4x10 2x12 3x10 2x10 1x15 1x12 1x10 |

I played a fF 12/6 cube this weekend. I'd forgo any cab built by any commercial manufacturer to get a pair of those. |
I would swap 2x10 and 115....MO |

Hmmmmm...Theres no 4x12... |
You think? A 2x10 cab has two motors and 157 square inches of cone area. A 1x15 cab has one motor and 176 square inches of cone area. So, bigger cone on its one driver, but it's still just one driver. Not sure. |
Id say: 610x412 610x215 415 810 610 412 all else is pointless  |

Two 10s at 4 mm (pretty typical) are going to weigh in around 300 cc. |
or 18's "All things being equal" meaning, if all those cabs had the same sensitivity? |
