Rant on Flea GK ad.

Sign in to disble this ad
Hope this hasn't already been mentioned as I'll fear a "Rant on Rant on Flea GK ad" post!

I'm cruising the Talkbass forums and see Flea on a GK ad that says, "I have the choice to use any amp I want...I have tried them all and I use Gallien Krueger"

...but in everything I see him recently he's using the new Acoustic stuff, thus making that ad a flat out cheap lie.

There has got to be a better way for companies to get me interested to go try their gear out.

For many years Flea endorsed GK. He recently switched to Acoustic.

...and now he's moved back from Acoustic USA to GK.

The more I listen to Flea the more I realize that is the GK tone... so if you want that, go GK.

I doubt Acoustic USA is making enough money to write a check fat enough to suffice Flea's needs to remain an endorser.

Alright, I guess if he's now playing GK after the brief Acoustic stint I don't feel as lied too haha.

Maybe Acoustic had an amp he hadn't tried yet, and he'd be a liar if he didn't try it?

G-K like most companies I have heard of don't pay endorsers, discounts and special orders yes, no pay.

FWIW, Flea could use any rig he wants so I seriously doubt that he’d keep using a bass rig he didn’t like - even if someone paid him.

The key is actually liking the product that you're endorsing.

See what many are not understanding is.

If you're an artist that has a very high profile and you are playing a brand that you like and you know just what your worth is to that brand you would be stupid not to get paid.

So you're putting hundreds of thousands of dollars or even millions (deriving from many years of brand association that adds up to many years of helping in sales) in a companies pocket, you would be happy with just getting a few amps and back line?

I don't think so.

As a bass nerd, I am not a high profile player or in the music gear biz, but I don't see the budget for companies to pay players.

I have heard of a player getting paid to do clinics and music store signings, I have heard of a ton of free/discounted gear, some fine dining schmoozing parties, and a cut from signature models (I imagine Geddy Lee and Marcus Miller have done well in this), but never have I heard of anyone getting big bucks simply for playing a guitar or amp.

Once again I'm going with what I've heard, I am not saying it's never happened.

No disrespect to who ever told you other wise but they had no clue to what they were talking about.

And for the record every case is indeed different.
