Re-done My Bass Cabinet - Pics

Sign in to disble this ad
I picked up this old Peavey 215H - It's a 2x15 PA cabinet with a horn of course.. Got it out of craigs list for $40 - Original square megnet woofers were welded to the spider.. would not move but I bought it anyway.. figuring i could do some frankenstein work to it and get me a bass cabinet out of it.

The grill cloth was torn and ratted in 5 places.. the tolex was also ripped, torn, missing pieces here and there, the corners were rusty and beat.. about the only thing that was good on the cabinet were the casters..lol

When I got it home 2 weeks ago.. I immediately opened it up, I removed the grille & old speakers, removed the corners, handles, and casters.. Torn off all of the tolex..

A few days later, I got out the black and decker palm sander and smoothed off all of the old glue.

I ordered black speaker carpet ( tolex was going to cost me 3x as much ), a quart of fabric glue, new corners, new handles, speaker grill, and new Eminence speakers and a new jack plate and 1/4" trs jack.. total of like $280

Speaker box & rebuild materials $320 total

I put it all back together today and here is the result.. I learned a lot of lessons here and I know my next job will be much better but I am happy with the cabinet, it is solid as a rock, looks much better.. now all I need is a hand truck to trasport it..lmao

This is my son-in-law.. he helped me re-do the cabinet, it was the first time either of us did anything like this and I thought it would be a good bonding experience between father inlaw and son inlaw.. we had fun..

Looks Great! Old Peaveys are fun to fix up and I love how they sound. I redid this one about a year ago.

I have about $125.00 into it.

Enjoy!

I really like the grille material that you used - where did you find that material?

Not Bad at all. Also now you have something to point to, and say, "see that? We did that together!"

Sorry so long to get back to you. It is just some tapestry that I found in a local fabric store. Funny thing was that I had found some just like it but it looked like paint splatters instead. I was going with that and when the gal at the counter unrolled it, this came flying out. Was exactly enough to do this and I have a piece left over for a 210. The back side of the material is colored exactly opposite.
