Re-fell in love with my GK last night

So my band played at a pretty cool venue last night with great soundmen and a nice PA (from what I saw it was pretty much all Peavey stuff) for a little dive bar/venue. I brought my 700RB/115SBXII/410SBX+ and I was DI'd into the FOH. The sound guy told me to keep the stage volume loudish, but to turn down just a tad. He was also stoked when I told him that I had a post-EQ button and all he did was minimal EQing out in the FOH.

I'll admit, I was a bit nervous. The band before us had a bassist with an all Eden rig worth more than my car, and their bassist definitely looked and played like a pro; and here I was a 20-year-old kid with a GK rig that was rather non-intimidating compared to everybody else's gear.

That was of course until I started playing. I must have intrigued the other bassist a little bit because he stopped loading his gear outside and watched from the doorway, then after his gear was loaded up he watched ME (not my band) the whole time from the bar.

The other opening band's guitarist gave me the best compliment ever in that I sounded "really full" and was checking out my rig after words and was genuinely curious in it.

My sound on stage was amazing, and from the compliments I got it was the same FOH. Really made it worth my while to haul the nearly 200lbs of equipment there that day.

All in all, I was really satisfied with this bass tone. Now, I know what you all are going to say: that I liked it because my 410 was up by my head and that I'd like it more if I had 2 410s instead of a 410 and a 115. I like my combo with the 15 on top... I like the sound of a 15, and I know the 410s will project better to the audience (who is, on a raised stage, at ear level with the 410s).

I would totally recommend the 700RB or really any GK rig to anybody who plays rock. Did it sound like an SVT? Nope. And while I'd love to own an old SVT one day I think my 700RB is "my tone" and I could not be more satisfied with the 5 years of service it's done for me.

Love my 700RB too!

I played a cool gig last night too, playing my upright and Fender Jazz through my GK 700RB with a GK Neo4x10 cab. Keep on on enjoying your rig my young Bass Brother!

Does your Neo cab change the warmth of the 700rb? I've noticed the Neos have a bit more "sizzle" than GK's older stuff, but then again I've only one played in a store.

That is funny, I traded my Eden rig (navigator, crest amps, 410xlt,212xlt) for a gk1001rbii, and two 410sbxII (the 800watt ones) and I have not looked back, It sounds killer and no matter what I can always get louder than anyone I am playing with. To always be able to hear yourself is a beautiful thing.

This guy's Eden was audible (at least where I was sitting FOH) and REALLY fat sounding. I just liked my GK better . I had fat + grind.

right on, powell. sometimes the grass is pretty green in our own yard. one thing that no amount of equipment can do for you is make you rock, and it sounds like you rocked it. nice!
