All my time as a bassist up to this point I have always had combo amps. So I am very in experienced with cabs and heads. So for my birthday I just got a Gallien Krueger Backline 4x10 BXL II cab. Im sooo excited to actually have a cab and head....but heres where you experienced people may help me. I want to know what some good heads are that would be just right for this cab. The cab is 4x10 with no horn or tweeter and is400 wt & 8 ohms. I really could use some help and would appreciate any advice from you guys! Thanks so much, Jacob

Backline cabs are pretty much GK's entry level, but the amp made to pair with it is the Backline 600.

If you can get a used GK 800RB, that would be great, even a 400RB is not a bad idea. Those things are solid.

Are you the kind of guy that only wants to buy one...and be totally done. Or, are you the type that will be eyeballing amps on a constant basis(also called gassing) for something 'better'.

IF you are in the first catagory...take your time and try out a bunch of heads before you finalize the deal. What sounds good to one person...might not sound right for you and your playing styles. There are sooo many differnt brands and models on the market plus, vintage models to choose from.

If you are in camp 2....then get something used so, that you have money leftover to try a different styled amp in the near future.

Should make for fun shopping, either way.

Thanks everyone, the info is very helpfull and now that Im just starting to get into cabs and heads I thought a Gallien Krueger would be a great path [cant afford ampeg or higher end Gallien Kruegers] I know the backline by far doesnt compare to some of your alls amazing rigs, but its a start and Im excited about it :]

Anyways thanks again for the feedback!
