Recomend an ok practice amp/small combo for apt playing & mic'ing up into ProTools...

Hi,

When I record at home I currently mic a Hartket 210Transporter while running a Hartke HA2500. I obviously keep it pretty low as I do not need to be and cannot get all that loud in an apartment setting.

I need to bring the Hartke 210 cab and head to my rehearsal space so I'd like to have a little combo to use at home.

The budget is up to $300 and I was wondering if anyone can recomend a 10"/12"/15" combo that does not have to be very very loud but would be able to handle 5 string and dropped tunings as well as standard tunings.

Looking forward to the opinions...

A used Gallien Krueger MB115 or MB112 would fit the bill nicely I think. hard to get a bad sound of either one.

Carvin makes a pretty sweet amp, the MB10. It's the one I'm getting.

If you’re in an apartment you could practice/record direct and use headphones - but the GK MB112 combo is really nice.

I like to mic up for recording, even if at a not so loud volume. I often use a SansAmp BassDriver to record both direct and mic'd but sometimes I do not keep the direct track.

Just purchased a GK MB112 for an apartment setting just like yours. I paid a little less than $300 for it by taking advantage off a 15% of sale from MF. I'd recommend looking into one of those. Most players around here hold them in pretty high regard.

A good preamp/DI pedal would give you all the tone you crave, and still be a cleaner recording source than any amp/mic combination. So many flavors to choose from, and so much easier to record.
