Your not alone in liking the PF-115LF. | I was not referring to G-K or any other specific brand. I've had cabs with neo drivers that seem to have had a need to produce a pronounced 'honk' in the mids that had to be eq'd. No likey! Quote:

These are now my top two picks, but I'm still a long ways from pulling out the check book. |

From the specs (which I hate to rely on) the Carvin will probably be deeper sounding, the G-K will most likely be louder per watt of input but more even in response.

I have looked over most cabs in my price range. <$500 each. I'm not looking to spend a month(s) (or two ) amount of work on a couple cabs. So far my top contender is a Carvin BR115.
Other cabs I have looked at:
GK 115 MBE-II
Ashdown MAG 115-T
Acoustic B115 MK II
Peavey Headliner 115
Genz Benz FCS-115T
GK NEO 115-III
Ashdown VS-115-200
Epifani PS 115
Hartke AK115
My current set up:
SR505 > Green Rhino > Bass Fuzz Deluxe > GK 800RB (treble boost filter, boosted high and low mids)
I play exclusively rock music right now. I like a mid-heavy EQ.
Thank you in advance, and I'll be sure to check in often for questions and comments. | they're all pretty decent and many of them use Eminence 15's (as does Carvin AND Ampeg)

| | Endorsing Curmudgeon: Mal's Kitchen Cruelties ... | | Join Date: Jun 2002 Location: Columbia River Gorge | | | I would be interested in hearing the GK myself. For the dough, I think the Mb115 combo is a darned good amp. Interesting to see how the cab's stack up. At the risk of going OT - IO driver size is one component to be concerned with. Overall cab performance irrespective of driver size is the bottom line... To that end I would suggest the Avatar SB 112 neo. It's a very nicely voiced cab. Very nicely constructed as well. 2 of them make a nice compact stack that will pack a nice punch.
You could consider semi custom. I had a 2x15 cab built last year. Fearful style construction, bracing, 12mm baltic birch plywood, etc... My design but mostly a rip off of the Johnk_10 concept. The carcas came in around 400, after loading it with Eminence 3015's getting the hardware, grill cloth etc... I'm between 800 and 900 .. And it will kick doors down. And move walls.... With relatively little power. Chuck Norris in a box :-). It took a little time and it is 1 4 ohm box, not two 8's ...
And of course here is the venerable old TL606. More than 1 stage has been rocked by a pair of those with a GK400 on top ... They ain't light but they do rock and in the used market, they come cheap... And they do sound fricken awesome ...

I have a couple of broken in Eminence Legend CB158's that I bought new, and from my "homework," it looks like those speakers could work well in the TL606 enclosures. Like stated before, I'm not looking to buy something tomorrow, so I'm sure something could pop up by the time I'm ready.
I did take a peep at John's build before this thread, and it looks like a really good cab, especially at the weight it came in at. Thanks for the suggestions Mal.

Have always loved their stuff. If you are looking for used - makes sure you check under the "Yorkville" name also - They took over the Traynor name a few years back and their gear was very much the same.

| | Registered User | | | | | TL606 I'd be willing to part with mine for about $400 + shipping:
It's in the 55-ish lb range with ceramic Eminence/Carvin 4 ohm driver.
It's pictured with the Eminence DeltaLite 2515 (8ohm)...
I built this set over a decade ago:
Besides the aluminum trim, it has ABS skin with steel grill and handles.
If you have the space, you could build your own cab out of 1/2" ply and be way ahead!! TL and Starliner are relatively easy to build. |

With the previously mentioned Eminence Carvin 4 ohm driver, this would be the cheapest by far. |

I do have some basic woodworking tools, no jig saw though, and plenty of space (3 car garage). I could give it a go. |

Getting ready to order another one for a portable 2x15 death machine.
I also hear good things about the sealed PF-115HE, but I have not personally tried one.
Nothing wrong with Carvin either. I've had a few different ones and they've all been great. | Hehehehehe....a 2x15 death machine indeed
Glad youre liking yours, Grateful!

Thanks for the suggestions Mal. | Might not be any currently being made (except the Orange OBC115, which is a bit expensive for what you're getting), but there are lots of used ones out there.
If I were operating on a budget, I'd be looking mostly at used gear anyway. |
