I am proficient at reading blueprints, and I'm pretty good with working with my hands. I do get scared at the thought of losing fingers to a saw or other equipment, and quite often find myself being extra cautious when working now. |

| | | | My rig is very similar to yours.. Ibby SR 506, GK 700 RB-ii, and I'm also cabless at the moment. I play more or less the same genre as you.
Have not played all of the 1x15's you listed above, and personally, I'm not crazy about using 15"-speaker cabs by themselves in just about any of the rigs I've tried. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it always sounds like there's something missing from my tone and what I'm hearing. It's definitely something mid-range related, maybe it's "punchiness" or "bite", but I won't pretend that I fully-understand the acoustic subtleties that I'm hearing between them (I'd rather not add to the myths re: speaker-size/10"s vs 15"s/etc. which breed like rabbits all over the Internet).
However, from my own experience trying out different cabs, I thought the GK neo 115-iii was by far the most complete-sounding cabinet, compared to all other 1x15 full or half-stack rigs I've played (*especially with two of em in a fullstack... which I think almost anyone would agree is a pretty kicka** amp rig to own). And even one of those cabs--by itself--can hold its own with most-or-much of the tonal-handling for someone playing hard rock and likes a healthy dose of the mids. But of course, try as many as you have time for. And also, if your on a very tight budget and want to double up.. The GK 115 mbe-ii's sound very good in a full-stack and I believe they're only $350 each. Can't do better than that. Good luck

I'd venture to say that that cab might be the "be all end all" cab at under 50 lbs, really loud, and small enough to haul in the smallest of sedans.
My preference is the sealed (infinite baffle) cab design... But John (and others) really like the ported version. With the Starliner design, you can actually use it both ways.
Another 2x15 cab I really like is the Vox T-100, which many claim is too small for two 15" drivers. Yet it's nearly the same size as the smaller model mid 60s Fender Showman 2x15, which is the basis for JohnK's Starliner, which sounds brilliant!
For a sound sample of the T-100 cab, listen to The Beatles 1st Washington DC concerts... No cab mics... only Vocal PA and distance recording mics... Sounds pretty good for a "too small" and sealed cab!
One of my fave light weight rigs includes 2 single 12" TL806 cabs. At under 25 lbs each it's a "no brainer." With the Eminence KappaLite 3012HO, it's great!
There are quite a few 1x15 cabs based upon the TL606 design you can acquire used that would be worthy... Because I've built my own cabs for the past 3 decades, I haven't paid attention, and the models and brands of TL based cabs escape me now... I'm sure someone will chime in with most, if not all of them... |

I have the 8 ohm version though. |

i tend to like the sound of hornless 15s, which usually get more full-range type speakers in them to carry some upper mids too, often at the expense of deep lows. i like a little sansamp grit in my tone, and grit does not play well with horns.
after i saw this... Quote:

that's the route i took, getting LDS don to cook me up two compact 15 cabs tuned for a pair of emi kappa As i already had.
forgive the crappy cell pic

I have looked over most cabs in my price range. <$500 each. I'm not looking to spend a month(s) (or two ) amount of work on a couple cabs. So far my top contender is a Carvin BR115.
Other cabs I have looked at:
GK 115 MBE-II
Ashdown MAG 115-T
Acoustic B115 MK II
Peavey Headliner 115
Genz Benz FCS-115T
GK NEO 115-III
Ashdown VS-115-200
Epifani PS 115
Hartke AK115
My current set up:
SR505 > Green Rhino > Bass Fuzz Deluxe > GK 800RB (treble boost filter, boosted high and low mids)
I play exclusively rock music right now. I like a mid-heavy EQ.
Thank you in advance, and I'll be sure to check in often for questions and comments. | Watch the classifieds here on TB & pick up a used 115 with an Eminence Kappa Lite 3015 (or 3015 LF) or Faital Pro 15PR400.
Also strongly consider a used 112 (or 212) with an Eminence Kappa Lite 3012HO (or 3012 LF) or Faital Pro 12PR300, 12PR310, or 12FH510.
They don't pop up every day, but you can likely find one within 3 weeks or thereabouts. And for not unreasonable coin.
Any of these would be far superior to any mass-marketed boxes. |

For a amazing bang/buck ratio this is the way to go.

| Nice cab, very reasonably priced - but for all around versatility (stand-alone or paired), I love Mesa PH115s. They are always available used for under $500 (most often in the $3-400 range), they all have some form of tweeter control, but the newer ones have a very nifty tweeter control/circuit reset (so you never blow a tweet or need to replace a fuse). Sound is rather even through the range. Not too heavy - available with removable casters. Check out Guitar Center's used gear site - generally 5 or 10 listed there. |
