Recommend me a good Combo?

Hi all,

I am moving to AZ in Febuary to go to Roberto Venn luthier school, which is totally awesome, but also presents me with a problem.

Right now I have a Genz GBE 750 with a 4x10 and 1x15. When I make my move, I'm pretty much limited to whatever I can fit in my car. I know I could fit my amp and 1 cab, but it will take up room I need for other things such as clothes and essentials.

So I have been thinking about just getting a combo amp so I can at least practice. I may sell or trade the Genz so I suppose my price range is 700-900 Bucks or so.

I really have not experimented with many combos. I am looking for a modern tone with a little grit (think Tim Commerford, Flea, that kinda sound). I use a Modulus VJ4 and FB4.

Also would be nice to have one that can use extension cabs.

So TB'er's whatcha think?

You could get a Shuttle 6 -12t combo. It is the price range you are looking at and it has plenty of punch. You wouldn't regret it. And the best thing, it is small enough to fit almost anywhere.

The new G-K MB line has a 2x10 that does 350 watts into its internal speakers and 500 watts with an extension cab. 37 pounds!!

For the price range of $600 - $900, I think a used Mesa Boogie Walkabout Scout would be a wise choice.

Just a quick thank you to everyone who has chimed in so far. I'm leaning away from any more Genz Benz stuff because for whatever reason I am not totally in love with the sound, maybe due to too many knobs to play with.

I like the Mesa and GK ideas though.
