Recommend me a good smaller combo amp?

I'm using a Roland Microcube Bass right now. But when I started using effects pedal, it couldn't handle some of the distortions and synths, as in like there are some umm you know "burst" or "popcorn" noise when I play.

Think it might be my pedal? I'm using a Boss ME-50B. If not, then I definately need a new amp. I think its my amp though. It happened before when I was blasting music through it at high volume. The burst noise I mean.

I'm looking for something good that's maybe up to around 1.5 times or twice the size? I live in a student accomodation, I move once a year and the rooms aren't really big so I prefer smaller ones. I'd go try them out myself but I don't even know what brand to look for.
