Recommend me a power amp!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey everyone,

I am looking for a power amp for my rig.

My current setup is:

Eden Navigator Preamp
Eden D410XLT (4 ohm)

What is the right power amp that I should get for my rig? Any input would be appreciated.

Oh, and I'm looking to spend at the most $300-$350.

Check out the Stewart World series amps. 1500 bridged mono watts at 4 ohms, two rack spaces and 17 pounds.

The Crown XLS 1000 is a very nice power amp that would fit in your budget. Light weight and shallow depth.

Careful with the digital power amps, depending on how much low end you wanna push I had mine reset on me several times in the middle of a show last summer from getting too hot, I picked up a peavey cs1400, never been a huge peavey guy but this thing rocks, it's heavy as crap but it depends what you're looking for.

that peavey is indeed the "new hotness", insanely light and insanely cheap. it's also kind of untested long-term.

if you want reliable and bulletproof, look at QSC. a used RMX can be had for dirt, and it will be powerful and reliable. (it'll also be heavy, but waddya want fer nuthin!?)

QSC PLX is also a reasonably lightweight winner, USA-made and thus nicer, but more expensive.

bThumper38: If SMPS Class D amps couldn't push much low end, sound companies wouldn't be using them to power subs.

walterw: The IPRs have been out for quite a while now. Very few reported problems after the intial batch.

true enough, class D has definitely come into its own (and into the big leagues), and we sell tons of the IPRs at my store, where they do great.

The D in Class D does not signify Digital. Class D are analog amps. They may be supplied by a switch mode power supply but that's not "digital either.

i'm using a Carvin DCM1000L power amp in my rig and I notice no difference in "feel" from the lead sled it replaced.
