Recommend My bassist an amp!?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, first post, just saying Hi, The names James,
Im posting on behalf of our bassist, who Is in dire need of an amp.
The only trouble is, we are restricted by the local music shop. ( Paying by cash, and super bulk purchase so we need on the spot Support e.t.c plus, we like the guys and wanna keep buisness there!)

I Play a little bass, but have a MB15, and know nothing of bass amps, and decent bass's's's's's.

We Need to Be able to cover medium pub club venues, and Large outdoor venues, ( will be miced there )

Ideally, we have £500 ISH to spend, and we need portability, so a combo is probably better.

We play a WIDE rande of music, We cover Metallica Megadeth style hard rock, Ranging down to The Black crowes, Muse, Ac/dc. For playing at home, He likes THe pixies and the smiths, Stripped back, rock, and blues e.t.c

i was thinking these ashdowns
Ashdown MAG C210 -300 EVO2

ashdown amps

or similar.
thses arew the other manufactures of bass amps around.

We MAY have access to Mansons Or Project music in exeter. If we Really need too!.

Thanks in advance guys

Basic rule of thumb for a bass gig rig- 300-500 watt head paired with at least a 4x10. If you go 210 combo route, be sure you can add an ext cab, (another 2x10), because volume is a product of having adequet speakers to handle the amps power.

Ashdown stuff is fine, MAG series is great value. If you get a combo make sure it has a line out for ext cab, you'll need it.

If you guys are playing through anything much more than 1x12 combos yourself a 2x10 combo is not going to cut it for bass.

Thanks guys,
so a head/cab, would be better?

also, with a 4x10, that would still push more air than a 1 or 2x15?

Head/cab def better, 4 x10 will push a LOT more air than even a 2 x 15, Ashdown gear is pretty good shizz, and Buying British is great 'flag waving'!!

Yes very much better! You could go with a pair of 2x10s rather than a 4x10. Just watch that they are 8Ω cabinets. That way the pair run in parallel will give 4Ω which is the minimum for most SS bass amplifiers.

You could also consider a pre/power set up. SS power amps are really cheap now and give excellent money per watt value.

Not so fast. If you find a good 2x15 and like it, don't pass it up based on that.

Some will whoop some 4x10s, just as well as some 4x10s will kill some 2x15s. Even some 2x12s can hang with 4x10s with a little help.

4x10 will be smaller, but might be just as heavy. A pair of 2x10s stacked tall would be better IMO, agreeing with BassmanPaul on pre/power, too.
