Recommendations for Bassman 100 tube amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
So I am looking for thoughts on what cab(s) to use with my Bassman 100. I played through a Boogie 4x10 powerhouse at 8ohms last weekend and it sounded incredible, although my amp is 4 ohms out. But I have been looking at Boogie's 2x12, 6x10, 2x15. Unfortunately, there is only 1 Boogie dealer here and this was all they had. I played throught the SWR Working Man 4x10, the GK 4x10 RBH and NEO 4x10, and the Ampeg 4x10HE and none of them held a candle to the Boogie 4x10.

There are 3 videos from Bass Day on YouTube where you can hear them all. But the player is using a modern Boogie amp. With my limited wattage, just wondering what you guys think? I am currently playing a groove oriented finger style, so warm, rolling, fat sound is what I am after. Shoudl I go with 2 4x10's at 8 ohms making them 4 when used together? Or go with the 6x10 at 4 ohms? Anybody have the 6x10, 2x12, or 2x15 powerhouse cabs?

The bassman likes a 4ohm load plugged into the "main speaker" jack although they're pretty forgiving if you plug "whatever" speaker into it. A 2nd 4ohm load can be plugged into the "ext. speaker" jack. On some of them, the speaker jacks make series connection thus giving you an 8ohm load instead of 2 and "automatically" tapping into the 8ohm feed of the amp. If you have an 8ohm cab only, plug it into the ext. speaker jack, if it makes sound, play it that way, if it doesn't, plug it into the main speaker jack and don't worry about it. My bassman135 works either way.

As far as cab(s) to get to play it live in anything bigger than your neighborhood bar, get something that has either high SPL speaker, a lot of speakers, or preferably both. Like a 610, 810, 215, 412, etc.
