Recommendations for cabs...

Sign in to disble this ad
I am new to live sound with the bass, and have recently come into acquiring a Fender 800 Pro, and am looking for some affordable options for a cab (or cabs).

I have been told that a 4x10 and 1x15 would be a good option... Honestly I have about $500 to work with. I'm playing an old beat up MIM jazz bass, and I also might be running my cello through this amp as well if that makes a difference. We do classic rock and 90's alternative rock covers right now.

I need some direction, and it seems like everything i read online is a little bit beyond my comfort level with this new gear! How much do i really need to play decent sizes venues? Any help for a n00b out there?

If you want used, check out the T.B. classifieds.

If you want to go new, www.avatarspeakers.com

Avatar's sound great, use top-shelf Eminence drivers and Foster horns, in well built voidless Baltic Birch plywood cabinets at a very reasonable price...
but ya better hurry...
Prices are about to jump up for all bass cabinet manufacturers...

I have a Fender Tb1200 into a 215Pro cab. Your 800Pro head can run a 215 any make (4 Ohms) . The Pro cabs cost twice what you have . If you run across a used Ampeg410HLF for $500 that would also work as well. Good luck ....

I would advise you to look for used gear as well, and also, a 410 and 115 is NOT a good combination, as popular as it may be. For $500, I'd be looking for at least a good 4x10, but maybe even a 610 or 810. One more thing, the speaker cab is more important than the amp, so don't skimp on speakers. Find a good used 610 cab for plenty of volume and good tone, (subjective).

I would disregard any other advice from whoever told you that

Ampeg SVT 410HLF and GK 410RBH are great cabs. You can probably pick up a used one for under $500.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm trying to make as educated of a purchase as possible since I don't have the money to run through equipment that I either don't like or isn't going to work! Playing seems to be the easy part... There is just SO much equipment out there!

GK 410 neo is a good cab to get used and it is light, I bought mine for $399 last week.
